I highly suggest reading Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan. Not only is it current cyberpunk, it is the first novel of an extraordinary writer who is likely to have a Hugo nominated novel this year (Thirteen). Read this and you will have much more to enjoy in the future.

Is it bad that I'm voting for PKD solely due to the fact I'm up to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" in the PKD collection that I recently bought?

Man, I wouldn't even consider myself an avid Sci Fi reader (or an above-average reader at that), but I've already read Snow Crash, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and Altered Carbon. And I'm on Cryptonomicon right now! Weird.

I guess I should read the other two.

Oh man, we're voting for book 4 already?! I better pick up the pace on American Gods!

It would be nice if there was a quick paragraph describing what the basic premise of each story was, so we could vote on what we think would be the most interesting. I looked up all the books on Amazon to get the premise, but it would be nice to have it here instead. :)

And it's Neuromancer by a nose!

Even though it isn't the discussion book, Snow Crash is a great book, and anyone who likes science fiction or technology should read it.

"shockwave rider" by john brunner is missing from the list.
