Great podcast guys,

Is anyone in this future of Gibson's normal? It seems everyone is either an addict, murderer, or some form of criminal with the exception of the Rastafarians.

Great Podcast. I wish I'd heard the original unrecorded broadcast *shrug* but this was great too.

@Greg, I think Gibson doesn't have a too...optimistic opinion of the future. Which is kind of refreshing to me. I mean, I love Star Trek, but it's so bright and shiny. Star Wars while containing a good amount of 'evil' is still on the lighter, brighter side of reality. Ender's Game has it's own set of darkness, but most everyone is inherently 'good'.

I like Gibson's future, I always think of Blade Runner and it's settings when I am envisioning places in the books.

Nice job on the podcasts. enjoying the discussion on the book especially as it is new to you both and your navigating it for the first time.

Hey all. Late to the party but catching up. Read Neuromancer a long time ago (and went nuts trying to finish the old DOS game based on it) but I haven't looked at it for a while Trying to catch up with the podcasts and hope the experience is as thrilling and eye opening as it was the first time around.

as an aside:

Note to Veronica: If you didn't like the sex scene in the early chapters, then you should be glad that Altered Carbon wasn't chosen! Some pretty steamy stuff in there too. BTW, Altered Carbon was another book that opened new horizons for me. Though the uploaded personality is a common meme, I like the way Richard Morgan's twist on it via embedded cortical stacks goes.

Hi all.. Haven't listened to the podcast because I've only finished chapter 10, but thought I'd comment. All this talk about Gibson predicting Cyberspace, or coining the Matrix, yadda yadda.. Anyone else notice that Case took a little blue pill at the end of said chapter 10 that caused some err unnatural side effects? That's a prediction that GIbson should really go looking for a payday with.

If this is a spoiler, you may not have wanted to read it.

Yeah, great podcast! There was some "technical difficulties" with the sound, but I was able to listen while on the eliptical trainer easily. I enjoy the insight you both give into the writing style of Gibson, for I seem to have a tough time using the ole imagination.

Greg, Just remember Normal is just a setting on your dryer. No one is normal. We are all just a little whacked.

Greg, I believe the Rastas are also criminals and chronic pot smokers. Which, coming from the west coast, seems pretty "normal" to me. Especially for a crime novel. You would assume there is also a "normal" middle class existence going on simultaneously in Gibson's universe but it would be rather boring to write about it and would be outside of Case's reality anyway.

Gibson novels are less sci-fi novels in form than crime novels set in the future. Spook Country, for instance, is reminding me a lot of an Elmore Leonard novel.
