No Zombies before bedtime – The S&L Podcast #034

In this episode we learn that some people hate Zombies, some are well prepared for them, and some people get very distrubed if they read zombe stories before bedtime. Of course it's not all zombies.  Sometimes it's para-narratives. And occasionally the Roman Empire. But isn't it always?

Beastmaster by Andre Norton
Not actually destroyed in the book but dealing with the aftermath. That’s close isn’t it?
She was awesome!

Somebody has probably mentioned this but in 'When Worlds Collide', by George Pal, the Earth is destroyed due to an impact with another planet. Happily, there is another planet that arrives at the same time, and some people move there.

Veronica asked, "Aren't they all biters?" Just had to share that I'm in the thick of "The Walking Dead," and a character had the same response to hearing the names her new companions had coined for different types of zombies (roamers & lurkers): "Two types? That's a bit silly. They all bite. Biters makes a ton more sense."

Really enjoyed the latest podcast and glad to see episodes hitting so regularly. Yay!

Veronica, just wanted to pass along an enthusiastic recommendation for Jo Abercrombie's "First Law" trilogy. I actually couldn't find a copy of "The Blade Itself" and started with the second book, "Before They are Hanged," but enjoyed it and the final "Last Argument of Kings." Abercrombie does a great job breathing life and individuality into the typical cardboard fantasy stereotypes.

If you like the style but don't want to commit to that many books, you can alternately go for her standalone novel "Best Served Cold." It's set in the same world and has several character ties to the trilogy, but it's a self-contained story of betrayal and revenge. Think "Kill Bill" meets "Ocean 11" meets "Assassin's Creed." The book is worth the read for the characters of Castor Morveer and Nicomo Cosca alone.

Enjoy :)
